Construction Journal Entry Week of 7/24/05

7/26-28/05 I went up to the property for 3 days: Tuesday through Thursday.

It was a pretty hot 80 degrees when I arrived at 1:45. There was no frog in the gate lock can. After moving in and having lunch, I drove up to the building and unloaded six sacks of mortar mix and stacked it on the porch deck. I had no trouble getting the pickup up and down the hill.

I insulated and nailed the rest of the seams (one or two of them) that were above the level of the scaffolding.

In the evening, after dinner, Earl called and told me that he was planning on having a garage sale and that I was invited to come over and have a first crack at the things. I told him I would be over after lunch the next day. That was a nice gesture on his part.

On Wednesday I got up at 5:30 so I could work in the cool of the morning and take a break during the hot part of the day. I chinked one and a half seams from Grid E2 to A2 before lunch. I cleaned up the tools, had lunch, and then went over to Earl's.

I didn't need most of the things he wanted to sell but I did buy a box of drywall screws, a couple pulleys, a froe, a book, a broadcast seeder, a WWII entrenching tool, and some other things.

When I got back, it was a stifling 85 degrees outside but a nice cool 68 in the trailer. I started taking a nap and had just dozed off when Rick Morrison stopped by for a visit. I showed him what I had been doing and we had a nice chat.

After he left, I chinked one seam from Grid E2 to A2. I had been feeling sort of sick to my stomach all day and it got worse as the day wore on. I quit at 7:00 and was happy to get a shower and dinner.

On Thursday morning I was still feeling sick. I woke up pretty early but couldn't get myself going. I considered just heading for home and calling it a sick day. But at 9:00 I decided to go up to the cabin and see how it would feel to do a little work. I started cleaning the logs I had chinked the day before, and I got into the swing of it. I ended up cleaning all of them. It is fairly tedious work but I got it done by about 12:30 before it got too hot in there. I left for home at 2:40.
