Construction Journal Entry Week of 10/13/24

10/14-18/24 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

I arrived at 2:30 on a beautiful fall day. I carried my gear up in 2 trips using the wheelbarrow for the second one. After hoisting the flag, I had my lunch and a nap. When I got up, I walked to the grave and went in and talked to John. He's an amazing guy. He had 3/4 of his roof panels installed when I got there. When I walked past the Smith's house, I could see they had several huge stacks of what I suppose are split firewood covered in tarps.

On Tuesday morning it was chilly in the cabin, so I built a fire first thing. Then I practiced the piano and listened to the radio. Then I walked to the grave again and had my lunch and a nap when I got back. Then I went outside and installed the last two of five scaffold brackets up against the stone wall. I selected what I thought was the correct plank arrangement and got them ready. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon practicing the piano.

On Wednesday morning I started another fire in the stove. Then I practiced the piano, listened to the radio and walked to the grave. On the way I stopped and talked with Karen Arnold for a while and then I saw Byron driving by with roofing material on a trailer. He stopped and talked momentarily.

After lunch and a nap, I went back to work on my scaffolding and discovered I needed one more plank. I put it on my list to buy for next week. Then I filled the water jugs and staged them in the entry room.

On Thursday morning the temperature was 31 degrees when I got up and I could see new snow in the high country. I believe that is the first snow of the season. I built another fire and then practiced the piano. After listening to the radio for a while I walked to the grave. Barb stopped about the time I got to the grave and asked me if I could ride home with her and take a look at her shed to see if my scaffolding would work there to install her roof. I talked with Byron and together we decided that my scaffolding would work as long as somebody else provided the planks and somebody else did the climbing. I told Byron to let me know if he wants to borrow my frames. Then I walked home from there and met John walking Abby on the way back. We had a nice chat.

When I got back, I had a late lunch and a nap. Then I split a bunch of firewood before I went in and practiced the piano.

On Friday morning there was what looked like more new snow on Nason Ridge. I practiced the piano and walked to the grave. Then I loaded the jugs into the truck and went down to the crawl space and switched the fan to winter mode. Then I had lunch and got ready to go home. I left at 12:45 and had a nice trip home, not to mention another wonderful week in the cabin.
