Construction Journal Entry Week of 11/2/25

11/3-7/25 I went up to Camp Serendipity for 5 days: Monday through Friday.

I got a late start and didn't arrive until 2:00. It rained for most of the trip, but it slacked off by the time I parked. I carried my gear up to the cabin in one trip and then hoisted the flag. After unpacking and moving in, I had my lunch and a nap. When I woke up it was raining again so I skipped my walk and did some exercises inside.

On Tuesday morning, I practiced the piano and then went out and worked on moving the big teeter-tottered alder log. My next approach was to use a come-along and a chain to winch the log away from the ridge. I fastened the come-along cable hook a few feet up in one of the maple trees the log was wedged between. Then I fastened the come-along to a log chain that was chokered around the log 10 or 20 feet away.

Then by cranking on the come-along until the cable was almost as tight as I could get it, the log lurched to the right a foot or two. Then I kept cranking to take up the slack and to tighten the cable up again. The log then lurched another couple feet. After three such maneuvers, The log wouldn't budge any more.

It was lunch time so I went in, had my lunch, and started thinking about my next attack on the log. After a nap, I walked to the grave and downloaded the news headlines.

On Wednesday, I started out by practicing the piano. It was raining cats and dogs so I decided against working on the log. Instead, I filled and staged 11 water jugs and did some other odds-and-ends chores until lunchtime. After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave in a light but cold rain. When I got back, Bill called to see how I was doing and to talk about 3I/Atlas.

On Thursday morning the temperature outside was 32 degrees. I fertilized Tiger and then practiced the piano. I skipped working on the log again because it was raining again. I practiced the piano, did some reading, and even worked on the puzzle a little before having my lunch and a nap.

When I got up, I walked to the grave in the rain again.

On Friday morning, I practiced the piano and then loaded the water jugs into the truck. Then, I closed up the cabin and got ready to go home. I left at 12:45 after a rather disappointing week but at least I enjoyed it in spite of not getting much work done.
