Construction Journal Entry Week of 9/8/24

9/9-13/24 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

I had a doctor's appointment in the morning, so I arrived late. It was 2:30 when I arrived. I brought my gear up in 2 trips, hoisted the flag, unpacked my gear, and walked to the grave. On the way, I briefly talked with John and greeted Abby. John is making remarkable progress framing up his building. I took a couple pictures of it.

On Tuesday morning I was up at 5:00 and out to work at 7:30. I wheeled two 60 LB sacks of mortar mix from the truck up to the cabin. Then I harvested a huge stone that will work nicely as a cornerstone. I scrubbed it clean and then set it aside for when I can use it.

I laid up one batch worth of stones using batch #96. After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave. Abby joined me and walked to the grave with me and then ran into the woods as if she wanted to chase a squirrel. When I got back, I listened to the debate on the radio.

On Wednesday morning I was up at 5:00 and spent some time removing the Holter monitor I had worn for two days. It was a little painful and I lost a few chest hairs in the process. I went outside at 8:00 and harvested a wheelbarrow full of stones. Then I laid up stones using batch #97.

After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave. Then I filled and staged 7 water jugs. That left about an hour to practice the piano before dinner. I finally decided there were no more mosquitoes threatening me, so I struck the mosquito tent over the bed and put it away for the season.

On Thursday morning I watered the plants then I went out to work at 8:00. I harvested and washed stones and laid up batch #98. Then I loaded the water jugs into the truck.

After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave. I said "Hi" to Frank Scoggins as he slowed down a little driving past me. He said he was in a hurry and couldn't stop to talk. Once again Abby joined me and walked to the grave with me. When I got back, I practiced the piano.

On Friday morning I practiced the piano and walked to the grave. As I was approaching our driveway on the way back, I saw the big truck that delivers the sheep parked on the highway. I continued walking up to the truck and got there just as they were setting up the ramps for the sheep to use to get out of the truck. I took some videos of the process, of the sheep herders, and their dogs. Then I had my lunch, packed up, and left for home at 1:00. It was another fun and productive week.
