Construction Journal Entry Week of 2/20/05

2/22-23/05 Andrew and I went up to the property for 2 days: Tuesday and Wednesday.

This was a short week because I wanted to be home Wednesday evening to attend a lecture by Roger Penrose. We arrived at 1:00. It was a beautiful sunny 40 degrees. There was no new snow so I was able to drive right up to the trailer.

After lunch, we sanded the surfaces that were due for another coat of varnish. I ran the sander while Andrew ran the vacuum. Next, we set up to begin working on the bathroom wall. There was another bolt sticking out of the wall holding up another scaffold frame on the outside of the building. The log in the bedroom that held the first bolt was all varnished so Andrew and I replaced that bolt and tightened up the nut. Then we went outside, dismantled the temporary scaffold brace, and reinstalled the brace on the next bracket. Then we went back into the bathroom, took the nut and washer off and Andrew drove the bolt in out of the way so we could work on the log.

Then I draped a tarp around the bathroom wall to keep the dust and chips in and set up planks on sawhorses so I could reach the top log. Then I planed the top 4 logs in the bathroom and got a start planing the window frame.

In the evening we played quite a few games of Speed and a couple games of War. Andrew won most of them.

On Wednesday morning we varnished the bedroom logs and window frame that were due. Then we packed up and left for home at 10:45.
