3/31-4/2/15 I went up to Camp Serendipity for 3 days: Tuesday through Thursday.
On the way, I stopped and visited with Bill Odgers and Uncle Charles. There was new snow above 3000 feet going over the pass but the road was bare. I arrived at Camp Serendipity at 1:20.
After moving in and having my lunch, I went to work varnishing boards. The temperature was only about 46º but the sun was shining and it looked like it would be warming up during the afternoon. Since I was out of varnished boards, and the temperature was forecast to be cooler the next day, I decided that this was my best opportunity.
I varnished nine 16-footers and five 8-footers, which were all the boards I had left. These were more than enough to finish the job, so I was glad to be completely done with varnishing ceiling boards. I can now dismantle the varnishing rack on the front porch and I will have the deck completely clear for the first time in four years. I bought the ceiling boards and stored them on the porch April 13, 2011.
On Wednesday I nailed up two courses of boards including one course up against the Grid B purlin.
After lunch and a nap, I set a mousetrap inside the cab of the truck. There was evidence that a mouse had gotten in there and chewed a hole in one of the seat pads. I probably should run a wire down to the hairpin turn so I can put an electronic rodent repeller under the hood like I used to. If I catch a mouse in the trap, I surely will.
Next, I went into the woods and inspected the giant sequoia trees. The snow was completely gone and most of the trees were squashed down. I straightened them up and straightened the plastic sleeves around them the best I could. Many of the sleeves need to be replaced with something better. It's always something.
After that, I went up to the spring and cleaned the debris from around it. Everything looks good up there except the flow out the overflow is a lot lower than I would like. I'll keep an eye on it.
It was beautiful and delightful out in the woods and I hated to go back inside the cabin. There not only was no snow, but there were no leaves and no bugs so you could see and walk wherever you wanted. I did not go back to the cabin in time to get any more work done in there.
On Thursday morning, I checked the mousetrap in the truck and found that it was undisturbed. I'm not sure what to think now. I went back to the cabin and nailed up the last of the full width ceiling boards. What remains is a narrow tapered space that needs to be filled with specially ripped boards that fit into that space. I'll leave that for next week.
I left for home at 1:30 happily looking forward to wrapping up the ceiling job, removing the scaffolding, and cleaning up the mess.
