4/13/11 The tongue and goove 1x8 pine paneling boards are stockpiled on the front porch awaiting varnish or stain before they will be installed on the ceilings inside and out.
4/27/11 The two vertical boards you see make up the rack I built for staining the boards and for drying them. Short pieces of rebar stick out of each board every three inches to hold up the boards.
4/27/11 The rack stanchions are fastened to the porch deck with hurricane ties.
4/27/11 Here is Paul staining the first of 235 1x8 pine boards using the drying rack. You can barely see the two pins at the tops of the stanchions ready to receive the board when it is stained.
4/27/11 In spite of the breeze, after while, the fumes from the stain got bad enough that I put a respirator on. It was also chilly so I put a jacket on.
4/27/11 The drying rack is fully loaded with 27 stained boards.
5/11/11 Paul rasping one of the holes cut in a vent board to smooth the edges.
5/11/11 Paul staining one of the vent boards for the ceiling.
5/11/11 Two different meshes of screen stapled on the top side of a vent board: window screen to keep out bugs, and hardware cloth to keep out rodents.
5/12/11 The first four courses of ceiling boards are installed on the front porch ceiling.
5/12/11 Close-up of the ceiling boards.
5/19/11 This shows the extent of the first round of front porch ceiling board installation. The scaffolding has been removed. You can see Rosie the rose bush at the left of the picture.
