The major projects for 2007 were essentially the same as those for 2006. These were to varnish the loft logs and to build as many as three staircases. Again, the time was not available to finish any of these. Most of the loft got varnished and substantial progress was made on the main outside staircase and the back deck and staircase.

1/2/07 It's hard to see in the picture, but there are cougar tracks going across my trail.

1/3/07 There wasn't time to finish all the log steps before the scouts camped here, so these temporary plank steps were installed as a stopgap. Once they were installed, the pressure was off to finish that staircase so most of the winter was spent varnishing in the loft.

On 5/9/07 Here is the front staircase after the snow had melted.

5/9/07 In the spring when the weather was nice, I went to work in the woods to get timber to build the back deck and stairs. I falled and bucked this nice 85 foot Douglas fir tree into five 15-foot logs.

5/9/07 Here are three of the five logs partly peeled.

5/30/07 The butt log has been ripped down the middle to form two deck planks. In this picture, you see the remaining four logs on the storage rack.

5/30/07 Here I am scribing a log prior to ripping it down the middle to make two more planks.

5/31/07 The log has been ripped. Now I am scraping the surface to prepare it for staining.

5/31/07 And here I am staining the planks.
