Construction Journal Entry Week of 9/4/22

9/5-8/22 I went up to Camp Serendipity for four days: Monday through Thursday.

I arrived at 12:15 just as a fire crew of three people were about to leave. They had completely disassembled the tank, the pump, the hoses, and the sprinklers and had them all stacked by the road. They told me a truck was coming by to pick them up. I didn't get a clear explanation as to why they dismantled the sprayer system and whether or not they would set up another one.

I brought my gear up in one trip and hoisted the flag. Then I noticed the crew of three was just waiting so I invited them up to see the cabin. They came up and we had a nice visit for about 1/2 hour until the truck showed up. Then they went down and loaded the truck and took off.

After lunch and a nap, I practiced the piano. At 8:00 o'clock in the evening I happened to look out the kitchen window and saw flames at the fire site, so I tried to get my camera out to get a picture. Unfortunately, the camera decided that it needed to have the date and time updated first so I was unable to get a picture. In an instant I saw that one big tree burst into flames that must have been near 100 feet high and then it died down. I wish I had gotten that on video.

On Tuesday I practiced the piano and spent the morning writing. After lunch and a nap, I did some more writing.

The mountain was smoky high up all day, but the air was pretty clear at the cabin.

On Wednesday I practiced the piano and then Dave called. We had a great conversation. Then I listened to the radio while I worked on the log wall/drywall interface in the bedroom corner. I got the backing for about 1/3 of it installed after lunch and a nap. I spent the rest of the afternoon reading. The fire site was smoky; there had been no change for about a week.

On Thursday I practiced the piano and then called Earl and we caught each other up on our activities. I listened to the radio while I packed up to leave for home. I had to be home for an appointment on Friday, so the week was cut short. I left for home at 12:20.
