3/23-26/26 I went up to Camp Serendipity for 4 days: Monday through Thursday.
Just outside of Sultan, the traffic on US2 came to a dead stop. It didn't move for 45 minutes except to creep into the spaces left by cars whose drivers had evidently given up and turned around and went back the other way. I thought there had been a flooding event or some other problem that wasn't going to get fixed.
But, eventually the traffic started moving and we could see what was going on. They had a crew working on repairing the bridge so they would close the road for a while and then let a single lane go for a while. Once I got into Sultan, the traffic settled down to a more normal pattern.
I arrived at Camp Serendipity at 1:10 on a warm and sunny day. There was no snow left except a few small patches directly under the eaves. I parked in the hairpin turn for the first time this year and brought my gear up the road in one trip. Then I hoisted the flag, unpacked my gear, and had my lunch and a nice nap. Then I did some exercises and other miscellaneous chores which took up the rest of the day. Both the power and the phone were working, and I was happy about that.
On Tuesday morning I woke up to heavy rain. After practicing the piano, I scheduled an appointment with Dr. Gupta, for a third opinion on my cardiac condition. He had an opening for this Friday, so I booked it and as a consequence, changed my plans to go home on Thursday instead of Friday.
After lunch and a nap, I went for a walk in the rain, but the rain turned into a downpour and it was too deep to walk in so I abandoned the walk and came back to the cabin. I did some work on the bedroom closet shelf instead. Later, when the rain had let up a little, I walked to milepost 1 so I could download the news headlines.
On Wednesday the temperature outside when I got up was 30 degrees and it was raining again. After practicing the piano, the rain had let up so I went outside with the chainsaw and cut down a bunch of vine maple brush from around the roadway. That gave me a good workout and made me appreciate my nap, which I took right after having lunch.
When I got up, I walked to the grave. On the way, I stopped in at John's place and saw that he was still dealing with high water. He had dug a deep ditch across his driveway and was draining water from one side of his property to the other. I gave him a book that I had lent to Robert, who returned it to me last week.
After I was back at the cabin, it started raining and then it turned to snow which grew into squalls that eventually deposited an inch or two of snow on the ground.
On Thursday morning the temperature outside was 23 degrees and there was a skiff of snow on the ground that had fallen during the night. After practicing the piano, I took the bathroom heater off the wall so I could learn the specifications, and also, while I was at it, I gave it a good cleaning.
Then I had an early lunch, packed up my gear, closed the place up, and left for home at 12:30. It had been a short week, but seeing this new doctor is important so it is worth it.
