Construction Journal Entry Week of 4/5/26

4/6-10/26 I went up to Camp Serendipity for 5 days: Monday through Friday.

I had to stop at the drug store and at the tax accountant. I arrived at Camp Serendipity at 1:30. I parked at the hairpin turn, carried my gear up in two trips, hoisted the flag between the trips, did some unpacking, and then had my lunch and a nap. After a few exercises, some miscellaneous chores and a shower, I was ready for dinner.

On Tuesday morning, the temperature was 35 degrees and the weather was clear. Soon I will be able to resume stonemasonry. There was a short power outage at around 8:00 that lasted only a half-hour or so, but that was enough to knock out my phone service for the next few days.

My piano practice didn't go well so I gave it up and turned my attention to the chainsaw. I oiled the bar and took the saw down to the foot of the concrete staircase. There I proceeded to cut down a clump of vine maples that had grown around an old stump and were about 3 or 4 inches in diameter. That was a lot of work, but it removed a huge clump of what otherwise would have become a huge bush 10 feet high.

The work took me well into my lunch hour, so it was late by the time I ate and had my nap. Being so late, I shortened my walk and turned around at the Smith's. On the way, I talked with Byron and Barb and I called Ellen and Ziply to report the phone outage. Ziply gave me an appointment for Thursday morning for a service call to fix the phone outage.

On Wednesday morning, the weather was clear again. I practiced the piano, which went much better than the day before. Next, I opened the box containing the new heater for the bathroom that we had bought. I read and studied the installation manual and determined that it could be made to work on the log wall even though it is designed to install in a standard stud wall.

After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave and called Ellen to let her know that the phone was still out and that repair was scheduled for Thursday morning.

On Thursday when I got up, the temperature was 25 degrees outside and the weather was clear again. After practicing the piano, I watered Tiger. Shortly after that, Ziply called and let me know that my phone was working. I called Ellen and let her know that the phone was fixed.

After lunch and a nap, I walked to the grave, downloaded the news, and then took a shower.

On Friday morning the temperature outside was 27 degrees and the weather was still clear. Ellen called to let me know about a change in the schedule for the brunch cruise we had planned for our 39th wedding anniversary celebration this weekend. After practicing the piano, I began packing up to leave for home. It had been another fun and mildly productive week which is about all I can ask or expect. I left for home at 1:20 with an intermediate stop at the tax accountant on the way.
