1/20-21/13 Ellen and I went up to camp serendipity for two days of fun: Sunday and Monday.
We skipped visiting Uncle Charles when went through Monroe because I was still feeling bad from my cold. We did stop in at Stevens Pass, though, and went in and surprised Marilyn. She was working in the boot rental place.
We had our lunch in the Stevens Pass lodge and then proceeded on to the Nordic Center ski area. We had a good time cross-country skiing the mainline track. From there we went to Camp Serendipity and arrived at about 3 o'clock.
After opening the cabin and moving our gear in we decided there was enough daylight left to walk down to Byron and Barb Williams' place a mile away. We tried to call ahead but couldn't reach them on their cell phones. We figured they might be there anyway so we took our chances and started walking.
It was about 20° out but there was no wind so the walk was very pleasant. When we got to their cabin we were happy to find that they were there. We went in for a nice visit. Ellen presented them with a jar of her Christmas blackberry jam and we toured their house to see what they're doing. We left in time to get back to Camp Serendipity before dark at about 5 o'clock.
I got a fire going in the wood stove and Ellen prepared the dinner. We watched a couple videos from John Lixvar and we watched a rented movie. We went to bed fairly early after a very enjoyable day.
On Monday morning it was about 18° outside. I built a fire in the stove and we had our breakfast. Next we put on our snowshoes and toured the back trails of the property. I wanted to see if there was any tree fall damage around the Sequoia grove or the spring and we were happy to find no damage at all. There were lots of broken trees but nothing that hurt anything. At the end of the trip we went down and looked at the ice sculpture that's formed where the spring water discharges from the hose into the creek. We took some pictures of that sculpture
Ellen made our lunch while I loaded gear into the truck. We left for home at about noon. On the way, we stopped at Fred Meyer in Monroe and bought a bunch of items Ellen had written on a list which will help furnish the cabin a little better. It's nice to be gradually switching over from a construction site to a recreational cabin where we can relax and have fun. When we got home, Ellen made a video of our adventure.
I decided against going back up to Camp Serendipity for the rest of the week partly because my truck needed considerable work and partly because I wanted to get completely rid of my cold.
