Construction Journal Entry Week of 11/10/24

11/11-15/24 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

I arrived at noon; The weather was dry and cool. I brought my gear up in one trip, hoisted the flag, had my lunch, and a long nap. Then I walked to the grave.

On the way I met Ken. We discussed when he might visit my cabin, and it was confusing. I didn't know what to expect.

I had a late dinner which pushed my schedule into the evening. Getting to bed late was not much of a problem because I had such a long nap.

On Tuesday it rained pretty much all day. I practiced the piano and then spent the morning working on the bedroom light fixture. I took it down, took it apart, and saw the reason for the problem. It is a result of atrocious engineering, and I worked on a method of rebuilding and re-engineering it.

After lunch and a nap, I worked on the fixture some more and then I heard a knock on the door. It was Ken. He came over about 2:00 and we had a very nice long visit while he toured the cabin. When he left, I walked to the grave and talked to Larry Ann on the way.

On Wednesday morning the temperature outside was 33 degrees and it was raining again. I practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and walked to the grave in the cold rain. I briefly talked with Karen Arnold when she stopped.

After lunch and a nap, I packed up the parts of the light fixture project because I determined I would have to work on it in Seattle. I didn't have the parts and tools I needed to rebuild it.

I did some reading and relaxing until the power went out momentarily at 6:10. After that the phone quit working. I sent a text to Ellen from the back porch hoping that she would get it before she tried to call me. It turns out that she didn't get it.

On Thursday morning I practiced the piano and then went for my walk in light rain. When I got cell service, I called the phone company and scheduled a service call. Then I called Ellen and explained the phone problem. When I got back from my walk, I carried the water jugs to the truck. Then I listened to the radio and had my lunch and a nap. When I got up, I practiced the piano and then discovered that the phone was back in service at 3:00. I called Ellen to let her know and I called the phone company to cancel my service appointment.

Friday morning the temperature outside was 27 degrees. I practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and started my walk toward the grave. About the time I got to the Smiths' house, I met the Smiths walking the other way and after talking for a while we decided to go to my cabin so they could have their first visit inside. They had a nice time asking a lot of questions about the cabin. When they left, I went out and finished my walk, but I cut it short because I wanted to leave for home. I left for home at 12:50 after another fun but unproductive week.
