Construction Journal Entry Week of 10/18/20

10/19-23/20 I went up to Camp Serendipity for 5 days: Monday through Friday.

I got a late start again and didn't arrive until 1:15. I had a lot of gear with me, so on my first trip up to the cabin I only brought the cooler and the laptop with me. After hoisting the flag and starting a fire in the wood stove, I took the wheelbarrow down to the truck.

Using the wheelbarrow, I hauled a truckload of yard waste over to the compost pile. Then I loaded all the rest of my gear into the wheelbarrow and wheeled it up to the cabin.

After lunch and a nap, I spent the rest of the afternoon practicing on the piano.

On Tuesday, I started out by writing a little. Then the insurance guy called, and I gave him all the information he needed in order to get the cabin insured. I'm glad that ball is finally rolling.

After lunch and a nap, I walked to the school bus turnaround and sent a text message to Ellen telling her that I finally talked to the insurance guy. When I got back, I split and stacked a bunch of firewood.

Then I went into the crawlspace and laid two pieces of plywood on the floor, on top of the plastic, in front of the steel scaffold frames. Robert was planning to come over and get some of the frames so the plywood would give us something to walk on. Then I placed some shims under the wooden stoop and the pieces of plywood to stabilize them.

I finished the afternoon by doing some writing.

On Wednesday, I practiced the piano, listened to the radio, had my lunch and nap, split and hauled some firewood, and did some more writing.

On Thursday Dave called first thing and we had another great conversation. Then Robert called and said he would be over to get the scaffolding. He and Derek showed up after lunch and the three of us carried 8 scaffold frames and 8 cross braces down the hill and loaded them into his trailer.

After they left, I had my nap, did some writing, and listened to the presidential debate on the radio.

On Friday morning it started snowing shortly after I got up. Dave called again before I started breakfast and just as I was walking down to the truck to get my Sorel boots. After I had traded footwear, I walked back up to the cabin and we continued our conversation about the debate.

I spent the rest of the morning at the piano or listening to the radio. Life is good, especially up in the mountains when it is snowing. There was about four inches of snow on the ground when I left for home at 1:30 and it was still snowing. I had no trouble getting over the pass.
