1/30-2/3/23 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.
I had a doctor's appointment on Monday morning which delayed my trip. I arrived at 2:20, had no trouble parking, and brought my gear up in three trips over hard frozen snow. I used the ice grippers on my boots to make it safer. After lunch and a nap, I spent the rest of the afternoon at the piano.
On Tuesday morning the temperature outside was 7 degrees. I burned a bunch of corrugated cardboard which took the chill off the cabin. Then I practiced the piano and did some writing.
After lunch and a nap, I went to work on the fan that I normally use to blow away mosquitoes from the front door. The bearing had started to howl, and the fan was useless. I took it apart and cleaned it and oiled the bearing and then it worked fine. It will be good to have that fan back in service again.
After that I went outside and split and hauled a bunch of firewood. Then I lit a nice fire in the stove and did some writing.
On Wednesday it was 10 degrees outside when I got up. The bedroom heater had quit working a couple of days earlier so I took it down, and reset the breaker. That got it going again. Next I replaced the back porch light bulb which was a little bit of a hassle. The long-handled bulb changer I have couldn't line up with the way the bulb was inserted. So, I abandoned the bulb changer and got a stepladder that allowed me to reach the fixture.
Next I practiced the piano, listened to the radio and did some writing before lunch and my nap.
When I got up I went outside and walked up the road and back for an hour. Having the ice grippers on my boots made me feel safe on the icy roads. Then I hauled up some more firewood to the porch.
On Thursday morning the temperature outside was 12 degrees. I got a cozy fire going. Dave called and we had a nice long conversation while I sat in front of the stove. After we hung up, I practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and then had my lunch and a nap.
When I got up, I went out walking again and walked down to the White River bridge. I wanted to see whether I could get a glimpse of Earl's cabin but even though the leaves were off the deciduous trees the cabin is tucked too deep into the woods to see it from the road or the bridge.
On Friday the temperature outside was 15 degrees. I practiced the piano, listened to the radio and then packed up to leave for home. It had been another fun week. I left for home at 12:45.
