Construction Journal Entry Week of 2/5/23

2/6-10/23 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

I arrived at 12:20. The temperature was 35 degrees but the snow on the ground was still frozen solid. I parked in my normal place but I parked too close to the left side so I couldn't swing the door open as wide as I wanted. I used a square nose shovel to cut through the frozen snow and ice to make a good place to stand and to swing the door wide open. Then I carried my gear up to the cabin in three trips using the ice grippers on my boots. That makes a big difference.

I hoisted the flag, had my lunch and a nap, and then I reset the bedroom heater since the breaker had tripped somehow and the heater was not working. It started working again but I built a fire to warm the place up.

On Tuesday the temperature outside was 27 degrees and there was a light rain. After practicing the piano, Robert called and we talked about the possibility of getting a pool table for the cabin. Then after listening to the radio for a while, I got the long extension ladder out, set it up against the building on the back stoop and I replaced the two burned out flood lights. Then I had my lunch and a nap.

Next, I opened up two fairly big rugs we had stored and laid them on the floor to see if we might have a use for them. I took some pictures of them and then rolled them back up.

On Wednesday the temperature outside was 29 degrees when I got up and there was about 2 inches of new snow on the ground. After practicing the piano and listening to the radio for a while, I went outside and walked for 1/2 hour. I felt weak and short of breath the whole time. When I returned, I had my lunch and a nap.

Ellen called and told me she thought a pool table for the cabin was a good idea. We decided that I would bring home things we wouldn't be needing from the loft to help make room for the pool table. We decided I should bring home two microwave ovens and those two big rugs, among other things.

I used a couple of old belts to make a sling and a handle for carrying the old microwaves. Using that, I carried the first microwave to the truck. That tuckered me out. I had an early dinner.

On Thursday morning the temperature outside was 23 degrees. I practiced the piano, listened to the radio and then Robert called. He told me he had done some research on finding a pool table. He said he was surprised they were so scarce. We discussed some pool table options.

After we hung up, I moved the piano to the opposite corner of the loft to begin making room for a pool table. Then I filled a garbage bag with recyclable plastic containers and I bagged up an old hammock that was taking up room.

After lunch and a nap, I brought the bag of plastic and the hammock down to the truck. Then, in separate trips I carried each of the carpets down to the truck and loaded them. Then I listened to the radio.

On Friday morning the temperature outside was 24 degrees. There was one inch of new snow. I practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and then carried the second microwave oven down to the truck. I left for home at 12:30 excited about eventually getting a pool table for the cabin.
