Construction Journal Entry Week of 3/23/25

3/24-28/25 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

It rained all the way over the mountains, but it slacked off about when I arrived. Unfortunately, I got stuck in the snow pretty bad so that I was high centered and needed help to get out. Fortunately, I was parked in a convenient spot to unload my gear and so I just let the truck sit. I brought my gear up in 3 trips using the Trapper Nelson for one of them and hoisting the flag between them. I was glad the rain had slacked off during that time.

I had my lunch and then walked to the grave but unfortunately the rain was back for the rest of the day, so I had a rainy walk.

On Tuesday morning I was hoping it had frozen overnight but the temperature when I got up was 32 degrees, so I didn't think it froze during the night. I was thinking if it had frozen, I might be able to drive the truck out in the morning, so I went down and gave it a try. It was still stuck. I called Josh my snow plower and he said he could come up and get me out and he would call back with his schedule.

I practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and then walked to the grave. When I got back, I did some work on the closet project. Then I had my lunch and a nap. When I got up, I worked on the closet a little more and then went down and used a shovel to try to get the truck out. It was really stuck so I didn't make much progress. Then I took the shovel up the stairs and cleared all of the snow from the trail between the stairs and the cabin. That was pretty easy.

Next, I went and checked on Paul the Sequoia tree and discovered that it hadn't been buried by snow all winter. It was still standing up straight which is the first time that has happened. Then I walked over toward Runty to see how it was doing and found that it was still buried too deep in the snow for me to get at it. Then I went into the cabin, practiced the piano, and worked on the puzzle. Josh called and told me he would be up in the morning.

On Wednesday morning the temperature outside was 28 degrees. I practiced the piano and worked on the puzzle for a while while I listened to the radio. Josh showed up at 11:00 and cleared the snow away from the driveway and the entire parking area. Then he pulled the truck out which took a little bit of doing. Dave and Nancy showed up to see the last of the operation.

When Josh left, I walked to the grave and met Dave and Nancy who were just finishing their walk. After lunch and a nap, I practiced the piano and then Bill called. We had a great conversation.

On Thursday morning the temperature outside was 38 degrees. It seems like spring is here. I watered Tiger, the snake plant, and practiced the piano. Then I worked on the puzzle while listening to the radio for a while. Then I walked to the grave.

After lunch and a nap, I worked some more on the closet and the puzzle. I also practiced the piano.

On Friday morning I practiced the piano and then walked to the grave. Just as I started down the road, I spotted a group of seven big birds that I think were wild turkeys but I'm not sure. I got a video of them, but they were too far away to see clearly what kind of birds they are.

After having my lunch, I packed up, closed up the cabin, and left for home at 12:30. I think I am going to start laying stones in the wall next week so I'm getting excited about that.
