9/26-30/22 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.
I was happy that US 2 was open, and I was able to drive up that way. I had to slow down for fire crews, it was pretty smoky, and there were delays but it was better than driving around Blewett. I saw no sign of fire except for some downed trees that I think the fire crews had falled.
I arrived at Camp Serendipity at 12:10. it was pretty smoky, so I wore a cloth mask that helped. I brought my gear up in two trips, hoisted the flag, had my lunch, and then an extra-long nap. When I got up, I spent the rest of the afternoon practicing the piano. The smoky haze persisted all day.
On Tuesday it was still smoky. I practiced the piano, listened to the radio and then mudded the last of the bedroom seam that I was working on.
I called and left a message for John, being concerned about how hurricane Ian would affect him. After I had lunch, John called back, and we had a nice long conversation about a variety of topics. He thinks he is well prepared to weather the storm. After we hung up, I replaced a burned-out flood lamp above the crawl space door. That was a pretty tenuous job because I needed to climb up to the top of a nearly extended 20-foot extension ladder and as it turned out I needed to make four trips up and down. Of course, I was very careful. I spent the rest of the afternoon writing.
On Wednesday it was smoky again. After practicing the piano, I prepped and painted the corner seam in the bedroom. Then I listened to the radio before I had my lunch and my nap. I spent the afternoon writing again.
On Thursday it seemed that the air was clearing somewhat. Dave called and we had a great conversation. After practicing the piano, I listened to the radio while I removed the masking tape from the seam in the bedroom. That was the final step except for cleaning up the mess and I was happy with the way the seam looked. I took a picture of the finished product.
After lunch and a nap, I took down the shutters I had installed since I don't think the fire crew is going to put sprinklers up again. If they do, I can always put the shutters back. I spent the rest of the afternoon writing.
On Friday morning I practiced the piano and listened to the radio for a while. Ellen called and informed me that US 2 was closed again so I had to drive home over Blewett. I left for home at 11:40 pleased that I had been able to spend a five-day week in the cabin again.
