Construction Journal Entry Week of 5/7/23

5/8-12/23 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

I got a late start and arrived at 1:30. I took one bag up to the cabin, hoisted the flag, and just then it started raining. I hurried back to the truck to get the rest of my gear and got wet in a cloudburst while carrying it back to the cabin. The temperature outside was 50 degrees. Inside the cabin it was 60 degrees. I set all the thermostats up to 70 degrees and then burned a bunch of cardboard to make it more comfortable while I dried off.

After lunch and a nap, I did some exercises and then took my shower.

On Tuesday I woke up with positional Vertigo. I tried what I could remember of the Epley maneuver, and it sort of worked. I relaxed for an hour and a half. Then I practiced the piano and the Vertigo subsided. I listened to the radio before having my lunch and a nap.

When I got up, I walked to the grave and back. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon reading.

On Wednesday I practiced the piano and did some writing. Then I had my lunch and a nap. When I got up, I went out and picked a bunch of dandelions for my salad. Then I went for a walk and met Barb on the way.

She told me Byron needed some help lifting a log so I told her I would stop in and try to help. Just before reaching their house, I saw someone in the house next door for the first time and he hailed me from an open window. His name is Kyle Fisher, and I was happy to meet him. As we were talking, Byron came by and joined us. The three of us then went to Byron's house and I helped a little bit lifting the log. Kyle did most of the work. When we finished, Byron walked with me back to our cabin.

On Thursday morning, Dave called first thing and we had a great one-hour conversation. Then I practiced the piano and just as I finished, Robert called, and we had a great conversation. Then I listened to the radio until it was time for my lunch and a nap.

I got up intending to walk to the bridge, but when I reached the Bartholomew's, I saw that Dave and Nancy were outside. I walked over, said "Hi" to Nancy and then visited with Dave. I congratulated him on his book that I had just finished reading. We had a great conversation.

On Friday morning I practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and then went outside and checked all the trees that I had planted. The Western Red Cedars we're getting tall and another one had died, but for the most part, they were thriving.

The Sequoias were enjoying the sun since the deciduous leaves weren't quite out yet. I was extremely pleased to see that Ellen seemed to be thriving in spite of the injury. All the rest of the trees were also thriving to the extent they could. The leaves are just coming out on the vine Maples, so they are going to be shaded from now on. I brought 5 gallons of water to Andrew.

Back in the cabin I prepared to leave for home, and I had my lunch. I left for home at 12:50 after another enjoyable week.
