Construction Journal Entry Week of 6/4/23

6/5-9/23 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

I arrived at 12:15 and brought my gear up in two trips. There were a lot of mosquitoes out. After hoisting the flag, I had my lunch and a nap. I spent most of the rest of the day practicing the piano.

On Tuesday after practicing the piano, I went outside and whacked the weeds around the truck, into the woods to the water spigot, and then up to the rhubarb patch. Then I continued whacking weeds on the upper roadway from the truck halfway up the hill where the two batteries were both exhausted.

Then I went in, practiced the piano for a while and then had my lunch and a nap. Then I spent some time learning to use the fire starter and bear spray that Andrew had given me as a gift. By then one of the batteries had charged so I went back outside and whacked the upper roadway. Then with both batteries dead again, I got Cindy and pruned the bushes along the sequoia trail. I provided a little more sunlight to Runty, Dave, Earl, and Ellen. I was pleased that Ellen looks like it is recovering well.

Then I went to the front porch and after a considerable amount of difficulty, I pulled out an old ladder that I had made for use on the scaffoldings when I chinked the front of the building. I took that ladder up to Paul and set it against the steep bank so that now I can more safely and easily climb up and take a look at Paul.

On Wednesday after practicing the piano, I whacked two batteries worth on the lower roadway. Then I stacked a bunch of brush I had cut down the year before.

After lunch and a nap, I walked to the school bus turn-around and tried to retrieve a message from my dermatologist but failed to be able to do that. Back in the cabin, I practiced the piano, did some reading, and took a call from Robert who said he might visit me the next day.

On Thursday after practicing the piano Dave called and gave me the good news that he planned to come and visit me in the cabin for a week starting July 10th.

After lunch and a nap, I listened to the radio for a while and then took Cindy outside and severely pruned the brush just opposite the front porch starting where the firefighters had left off with their pruning work last summer.

On Friday morning Robert called and explained why he hadn't come to visit. Then I practiced the piano and gathered quite a few things that I needed to bring home. It rained most of the time, but it cleared a little when I loaded the things into the truck.

It was a good week, and it is gratifying to see the change the weed whacking makes in the look of the property. I left for home at 12:45.
