Construction Journal Entry Week of 6/5/22

6/6-10/22 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

I arrived at 12:35 and took my gear up to the cabin in one trip. I hoisted the flag, had my lunch, and then my nap. When I got up, I took the wheelbarrow down to the truck and hauled a 60-pound sack of concrete mix from the truck up to the cabin.

On Tuesday morning I overslept until 7:00 o'clock. After practicing the piano, Robert called, and we had a good conversation. Then I went to work making a new hypercube and video shots of the process. After lunch and a nap, I did some more work on the hypercube and shot some more video.

Then I went outside and checked the salt and saw that it was OK. I checked Paul and saw that it is getting bushy which is good news. It's about time. Then I went down and checked Runty and saw that it is growing nicely. I proceeded on and was not surprised to see that Dan is not doing well. It hasn't decided which branch is going to be the stem.

On Wednesday morning Dave called and we had a great conversation. Then I practiced the piano, listened to the radio, and started painting the hypercube I had built.

After lunch and a nap, I did some more painting and then I built a form for the concrete I intend to pour to repair the rock steps. As I usually do, I decided to emboss the year in the concrete and this time I decided to make the numbers out of modeling clay and anchor them to the form with small roofing nails. I got that ready to go.

On Thursday after practicing the piano, I did some more painting on my hypercube and was so disappointed I gave up completely. One problem was that the acrylic paint I have does not cover the magic marker colors that were already on the edges. No matter how many coats of acrylic I put on, the magic marker color would bleed through and ruin it. I decided I was going to start from scratch if I was going to proceed at all.

During the night I had gotten bit by a mosquito that was in the bedroom, so I decided this was the time to set up my mosquito net tent over the bed, which I did.

Next, I spent a considerable amount of time figuring out how to get in touch with the telephone company and report a hum that had developed in my line. I finally got hold of somebody and scheduled a repairman for the next morning between 8:00 and noon.

It was raining outside so I spent the morning making the clay numbers for my concrete form while I listened to the radio.

After lunch and a nap, it had stopped raining, so I went outside, mixed and poured the concrete, and had just finished cleaning up the tools when the rain started again. I got lucky. I spent the rest of the afternoon practicing the piano.

On Friday morning I practiced the piano and then Robert called. I let him know I would be late arriving next week because of a dentist appointment. I kept my eye on the road to make sure I would know when the telephone service man showed up. At about 10:30, a car drove into the driveway so, thinking it was the serviceman, I went down to greet him. As soon as I approached, he backed out of the driveway and drove off. The car was not marked so I suppose it was not the serviceman.

I vacuumed the first floor and then went outside and stripped the form from the staircase repair job. It looks good. I left for home at 12:45 and the serviceman had not yet appeared. I am convinced the problem is outside the cabin so whenever he does show up, he should be able to repair it without me being there. I guess I'll find out next week.
