Construction Journal Entry Week of 6/11/23

6/12-16/23 I went up to Camp Serendipity for five days: Monday through Friday.

I arrived in good weather at 11:35. I hauled my gear to the cabin in two trips, the second one using a wheelbarrow. I used a bug hat and latex gloves which were pretty effective against the mosquitoes. After hoisting the flag and having my lunch and a nap, I spent the rest of the afternoon practicing the piano.

On Tuesday morning, I started by practicing the piano. Robert called and we had a long conversation catching each other up. Then I went outside and used up two batteries whacking the weeds on the lower roadway. Then with Cindy, I cut a considerable amount of brush away from the area opposite the front porch.

After lunch and a nap, I walked to Eunice Henry's grave and back. On the way I talked a while with Barb and Byron until the mosquitoes started pouring into their car. The county was busy resurfacing our road making dozens of trips in their gravel trucks.

On Wednesday morning I practiced the piano and judged my memory to be nearly completely recovered. I made about the same number of mistakes that I would normally make playing the repertoire prior to my ablation. I hope I am back to normal in the memory department.

The temperature outside was a cool 50 degrees. That made it nice whacking the weeds. After running both batteries down, I took Cindy back to the brush opposite the front porch and cut a bunch more away.

After lunch and a nap, I walked to the bridge. As I reached the intersection, I talked to the highway crew who had just finished the resurfacing job and was loading up their heavy equipment and driving it away. Then I practiced the piano.

On Thursday I practiced the piano and then went out to whack more weeds. On my way down the front steps, I saw a fairly good sized Garter snake that I have seen living in that clump of bushes before. Each time it seems to be a little bigger. After exhausting the batteries on the lower roadway, I went into the woods and checked on Paul and Runty.

After lunch and a nap, I loaded a bunch of water jugs to bring to Seattle. While on the porch I saw a bat flutter in and land on the deck. It looked scared and bewildered so I just left it. A few minutes later it had disappeared. Next, I walked to Eunice's grave.

On Friday morning, I practiced the piano, and then went down and tarped the load in the truck. The weather was due to change, and I wanted the cardboard boxes to stay dry. I left for home at 12:30 pleased with the work I had done on the weeds and bushes.
