7/4/07 We got up in time to go to a pancake breakfast at the American Legion hall. After breakfast we decided to join the organized run/walk around the lake. The problem was that a long train had pulled in and was blocking the tracks. When it stopped, John and I climbed up and went across the train between cars. I got some pictures of the train and us on it.

. . .

We met up with Devonna, John Murrin, and Debbie at the park limbering up for the event. John Murrin was planning to run but all the rest of us were going to walk. Devonna was leading some yoga stretching exercises which John (Martin) joined in.

. . .

I sat and watched them. When we formed up to begin the walk, we met Teddy Uecker and talked with him for a while. We posed for some pictures with him.

. . .

During the walk, Gayle, John, and I ended up walking together. The others were either ahead of us or behind us in the crowd. There was a fountain going in the middle of the lake which was beautiful. When we finished, we visited with people we knew. Mary Ellen Cors recognized one of us and we chatted with her for a while. She was a next door neighbor when we were kids. I took a picture of her.

. . .

The next event was a parade down Main Street. People began lining up on the sidewalks an hour or two ahead of time. I met a few of my old classmates there. I got pictures of John Butterfield, Alan and Roger Olson, Maurice and Ann Olstead, Bill and June Stevens and Mick and Sandy Dragoo.

. . .

. . .

. . .

. . .

The parade was long, with some interesting farm equipment, both new and old, but I spent most of my time talking and not watching the parade much.

After the parade, we got in line down at the park to have lunch. I got a picture of Earl and Mary Ellen Edwards, and Doug Edwards and his wife, Patty,

. . .

and I talked to Warren Edwards. I couldn't get over how much Doug looked like their dad and not at all how I remember Doug looking. Even his mannerisms, posture, and speech were exactly like Frank's. I also talked with David Fossen and his wife, Corinne, George Cayley, and some others I can't remember.

After lunch, I helped Earl take a canoe he had built off his pickup and launch it in the lake.

. . .

It is a beautiful canoe made of cedar strips. He made it for his brother Wes and had brought it out for him from Pennsylvania. Earl and I put on life jackets and took the canoe out for a test drive.

. . .

. . .

It was a little unstable, but we managed to get back without getting wet. Nobody else wanted to take it out, so we loaded it back onto the pickup.

. . .

I went back to the lodge and had a short nap. Then I walked over and had dinner at Peppy's with Earl and Mary Ellen, Maurice and Ann, Bill and June, and Mick and Sandy.

. . .

. . .

After dinner, I took a picture of Arlo Howe and another one of Maxine and Norman in the pickup. I had missed them when I took pictures at the Howe reunion.

. . .

I invited our group to come over and use our lodge to get out of the heat or to use our bathroom if they wanted. Mick and Sandy took up my offer and came over. They greatly appreciated the respite from the heat. We chatted and rested for a while.

. . .

John and his friend Harold Samdal came in either before or after the Dragoo's left. John, Harold and I went down to the lake to watch fireworks. We joined up with Gayle, John Murrin, and some others. The fireworks were quite spectacular. Afterwards, Harold came back to the lodge with us and we had a really nice conversation about flying and scouts. I was surprised to learn that not only had Harold been a scoutmaster, but Earl had been one too and Alan Olson had been a professional scouter.
