Digging down through 7 feet of snow trying to find a log.


After the search pattern you see, the right log was found, and then a 40 foot trench was dug in order to get the log out.


By springtime 5 courses of logs were up on the walls. The entire crane is visible in this picture, as is the log chute up against the rock wall on the edge of the cliff in front of the building. You can also see the commander's chair on the cliff above.


Busy gwizzing a log. The crane and chain were used to rotate the log as I worked.


Ellen up on the scaffolds. Two scaffold brackets were bolted to each wall, a diagonal 4x4, or 2x6 on edge, was bolted to each corner, and the planks were supported by these and fastened with Z-brackets.


When Paul is in the commander's chair, there is no crew left to command.
