10/29/18 The back porch railing is completed.

10/29/18 Another view of the new back porch railing.

10/30/18 This week, three huge Doug fir trees were felled. Two of them are at the center of this picture--the one in the center, and the darker one just behind it. The front one has been notched in front and is ready to fall.

10/30/18 Here you see it on its way down.

10/30/18 The loggers, Robert and Roger, are standing near the stump of the tree.

10/30/18 Robert has just made a bucking cut in the tree.

10/30/18 Robert is trimming the undercut in the second tree.

10/30/18 Here the second tree is ready to fall.

10/30/18 The tree has fallen and has slid down the cliff on its way.

10/30/18 Here Robert is posing with the stump of the second tree. You can see the notch in the stump that held the jack. Both of these trees had to be jacked in order to get them to fall the right way.

10/31/18 Robert is climbing the spar tree in order to retrieve the two blocks (pulleys) that are still holding cables.

10/31/18 Robert lowered the two blocks to the ground, and then descended by rapelling down.

10/31/18 Robert has just made the undercut and the wedge is just falling out.

10/31/18 Here the spar tree is beginning to fall.

10/31/18 And here it is about to hit the ground.

11/7/18 Skidder is backing up past the woodshed going way back into the woods to get logs.

11/7/18 Robert and Roger are chokering big pine logs.

11/7/18 Two logs are being skidded out of the woods to be stacked on the edge of the bluff.

11/8/18 Robert has pulled the newest logs down from the bluff and is putting them in the log deck. Jack Van Puyen is on his self-loading log truck and is loading logs from the deck.

11/8/18 Jack has finished loading his truck and is ready to tie it down.

11/8/18 The load is ready and the log truck is taking the logs away. Quite a nice load.

11/20/18 Here is a pole that might work as a rail for the back porch stairs. It is only a candidate but I wanted to get it up on the porch before it snows just in case I wanted to start working on it.

11/20/18 Before winter sets in and covers everything with snow, I took advantage of the nice weather to harvest a bunch of firewood that the loggers left for me. Here you can see some of the maple firewood rounds I have stored in the woodshed to cure. In the foreground you can also see a stack of small branches the loggers bucked up for me to use as firewood. That stack was hauled down and stacked under the cabin eaves for use this winter. For orientation, you can see the privy on the left and the high rock on the right of the woodshed.

12/19/18 With winter weather here, priority has shifted away from railings, logging, and drying the crawl space to the blocking required behind TJI joist hangers. Here you see several of the joist hangers before the blocking was installed.
