8/21/14 A close-up of Dee.
9/9/14 This sequence of pictures shows how a real logger like Robert Ferrel falls a tree. His assistant, Dee, is shown along with his future mailbox. The big stump at the left will be harvested to provide Dee with a mailbox stand that should withstand the attacks of the snowplow. At least that is what he plans. Robert is finishing up the face cut in the tree.
9/9/14 Here Robert has just knocked out the wedge of wood from the face cut.
9/9/14 Starting the back cut.
9/9/14 Inserting wedges into the back cut to keep the tree from falling over backward.
9/9/14 Hammering the wedges in tight.
9/9/14 Continuing the back cut.
9/9/14 Hammering on the wedges some more.
9/9/14 Finishing up the back cut.
9/9/14 The tree is beginning to fall over.
9/9/14 The tree is held to the stump by a "hinge" of wood between the front and back cuts. This hinge guides the tree to fall exactly where Robert wants it to go.
9/9/14 The tree is on the way down.
9/9/14 It hits the ground and throws one of the wedges in the air.
9/9/14 The tree rolls downhill before it stops.
9/10/14 Robert loads up a trailer full of logs for the first buyer. These logs will be used to build a bike facility of some sort for Stevens Pass.
